Corporate Social Responsibility
Pepsi aims to inspire and facilitate our people to contribute positively to our society and create a sustainable business future.
We recognise our responsibility for the social impact we have on communities, and our corporate social responsibility programme is integral to what we do. The desire to “give something back” is a particularly strong feature of our people, and Pepsi supports a variety or projects to help others.
There are three core elements of PepsiCo Ireland’s CSR Agenda:
1. Community Based CSR
Charity Committee:
The charity committee is a cross functional team which meets monthly to consider sponsorship requests for product or funds to be allocated from a monthly budget.
Helping Hand Programme
PepsiCo operates a Helping Hand Programme to provide focused assistance to a select number of Non Governmental Organisations building longer term sustainable relationships and providing consistent support to these groups. Support includes financial assistance as well as staff involvement in fundraising activities including flag days and sponsored walks.
Voluntary activities that take place include:
- Junior Achievement – our volunteering programme allows our people to participate in activities like our partnerships with Junior Achievement helping to provide business knowledge to schools.
- Challenge Science – Volunteers teach a science based programme to first year secondary school students from schools in Cork City and County.
2. Environment Based CSR
PepsiCo is committed to protecting the natural resources we use and reducing our environmental footprint with the ultimate goal of having a net-neutral impact on the planet. We've focused our environmental sustainability efforts on water, energy, packaging and solid waste – areas where we can make the biggest impact.
3. Workplace Based CSR
PepsiCo's commitment to workplace based CSR can be seen by the accolades received by the company in the recent past.
Excellence through People
Excellence through People is Ireland's national standard for human resource management, it is the only standard dedicated to the role of people and their impact on business. PepsiCo Ireland volunteers to take part in this process. There are three levels of achievement: Standard, Gold and Platinum.
PepsiCo first achieved the standard level in April 2004 and again in May 2005. In 2006 PepsiCo Ireland achieved PLATINUM level, and was one of only five companies nationally to secure the Platinum Standard at the time. In 2009, PepsiCo Ireland was reaccredited with the prestigious ETP Platinum award for the Little Island and Carrigaline plants. In addition the headquarters in Eastgate achieved platinum for the first time.
A Great Place to Work
We are considered to be the best manufacturing workplace to work for in Ireland one of the Top 3 companies to work! The Great Place to Work process helps distinguish who the most satisfied workforces in the country are and therefore who are the premium employers in Ireland. In essence, the "Top 50" lists the companies where employees trust the people they work with, have pride in what they do, and enjoy the people they work with. The companies who make it onto the Top 50 are selected from more than 500 eligible organisations. Companies are selected for inclusion on the Top 50 list by conducting a confidential survey of employees to measure the levels of Credibility, Respect, Fairness, Pride and Camaraderie within the company. 85% of respondents said that PepsiCo Ireland is a great place to work.
