Health and Safety in PepsiCo Ireland
We place a huge emphasis on Health and Safety in all our operations. Our initiatives - which include extensive training and an incident reporting system - are guided at all times by the philosophy No One Gets Hurt.
Our Focus in this area has resulted in a number of recent milestones at our Carrigaline and Little Island Plants

- Centre of Excellence (CoE) Awards Winner
- OHSAS18001 & ISO14001 Certification - May 2010
- NISO ( National Irish Safety Organisation)/ NISG (Northern Ireland Safety Group) - 2010 winner of Prestigious Award
- HSA (Health & Safety Authority) Safe Maintenance Awards Winner 2010 and will represent Ireland in Europe 2011
- IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) - Shortlist for Best Achievement in Manufacturing - Awards ceremony 20th October in London
- Meeta (Irish maintenance and asset management society) Maintenance Health and Safety Award – November 2010
Little Island Health and Safety Update
1. The ongoing reporting of Near Misses / Good Catches
480 Near Misses / Good Catches reported. An increase of 40% from 2010.
2. Supporting Health and Safety Training
41,645 hours of Health and Safety Training undertaken by staff. Up 63% on 2010.
3. Working Safely to Reduce Accidents
5 First Aid / Recordable Accidents ytd. A 62% reduction on the same period last year.
Working safely through the busiest period in the plant's history. Over 300 employees have worked 304,205 hrs to the end of June.
4. 244 Contractors inducted YTD
1,200 work permits issued.
5. Communication / Safety Awareness
Monthly H&S news letters issued, area toolbox talks, and weekly comms circulated.
Little Island Health and Safety Milestones
1. PepsiCo Recognition
At the PepsiCo Global Safety summit held in Mexico at the beginning of April, Little Island was recognised for the progress made on its health and safety journey to date and was awarded a PepsiCo Global Operations Centre of Excellence Award for Occupational Health and Safety.
